Peter showing us how to layout the halo using a compass. So that's how it's done.  Peter has been a student of iconography for over thirty years. Self taught for nearly fifteen years, in 1984 he studied under Russian iconographer Dr. Nina Bouroff in Bethesda, Maryland. After moving to Pennsylvania in 1991, Peter worked and studied with Philip Zimmerman at the St. John Damascus Academy of Sacred Arts, an Orthodox school of icon painting in Ligonier, PA where he assisted in several projects and classes. In 1994, Peter studied with Nicholas Papas in Greensburg, PA and in 1997 he attended the Iconography Institute at Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon, where he studied with Charles Rohrbacher of Juneau, Alaska. Peter continues to study various techniques with others. He has created hundreds of icons for private collectors, churches and other institutions throughout the world. Each session began and ended with prayer and at the end of the week the icons created during the workshop were blessed.    We have ask Peter to come back next year for another Icon Retreat.
