Weddings at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

New Harmony, Indiana

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Harmony (the present building) was consecrated in 1912.  The people of St. Stephen’s are pleased to share the beauty of their parish church with both visitors to New Harmony – the church is always open for prayer-and with those who wish to be married in it.  We have many requests for weddings at St. Stephen’s, and in order to help couples who are making their plans, these are the guidelines we that we ask you to follow if you decide to have your wedding at St. Stephen’s:

v     Most couples coming from outside of New Harmony already have a minister to perform their wedding.  If your minister has questions about the layout of the church or needs to speak with someone about details regarding a service at St. Stephen’s, the rector of St. Stephen’s name and telephone number are listed below.

v     Many couples inquire about the use of the organ and someone to play it.  Kathleen Berry is available to play for weddings.  Her fee for weddings is $100.00, and is to be paid at the time of the wedding.  Her telephone # is (812) 682-5124.

v     The fee for non-members who wish to use St. Stephen’s is $500.00.  No later than two weeks prior to the date of your wedding a check for $200.00 (damage deposit) and one for $500.00 should be sent and written to:

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

P.O. Box 173

New Harmony, IN 47631

The check for $200.00 will be returned within two weeks following the wedding if there were no damages to the church.

Other guidelines for using St. Stephen’s:

ü     St. Stephen’s is a beautiful church.  We therefore ask that you keep your flower and other decorations to a minimum.  Those decorations may include: 2 flower arrangements on the table behind the altar, flowers and/or bows on the family pews, and a flower arrangement on the table in the back of the church under the large angel window.  No flowers may be placed on the altar itself.

ü     A unity candle may be placed on the altar to be used during the service.  The use of candles other than those already in the church must be cleared by the rector.

ü     None of the church furnishings may be moved without speaking to the rector.  Several of the pieces in the church are old and break easily.

ü     No smoking in any of the church buildings.

ü     Please make sure that the church, and any adjacent rooms that you and your wedding party use are left clean and in good order.
